Indian Passport - MS in Ireland
When you want to go abroad for a master’s program, your Indian passport becomes your prime document for identification. The passport signifies your country of citizenship. This document is one of the most essential requirements when you apply for a masters’ program in Ireland. Whether you need to apply for your language proficiency tests or submit your application forms to the university, this document is always the first requirement mentioned. If you already have the Indian Passport, you can proceed to the next document required.
Typical time required: 1 to 4 weeks
Passport Fee: Rs.1500 – Rs. 4000 as of December 2019 (depends on the scheme applied, i.e. Normal/Tatkaal)
Required Documents for Passport Application
- A Proof of your Present AddressYou can provide your Parents' Passport, Aadhar Card, electricity/water bills, house rent agreement, etc. Aadhar Card is most preferable.
- A Proof of your Date Of BirthYou can submit your Aadhar Card, Birth Certificate, PAN Card, School Leaving Certificate, Driving License, etc.
- Your Secondary School Certificate / Graduation Certificate
- Your Bank Statements (as advised by the Passport office)

Online Application
- Create a new account on the Passport Seva Online Portal.
- A verification email will be directed to your email inbox. Verify the new account created.
- Sign in to the link with your newly registered Login ID.
- Click on the link"Apply for a Fresh Passport / Re-issue of Passport".
- Select the option "Click here to fill the application form online."
- Choose your State and District in the RPO Selection Page.
- Fill in all the required details and check them carefully before submitting. Once you have looked through it well, submit the form.
- Pick your preferred mode of payment for the application and pay the required corresponding fee.
- You will then receive a confirmation email, indicating that your Passport has been submitted to the Regional Passport Office.
Appointment Day
- Be present at Passport Seva Kendra well before your respective reporting time.
- Once you enter the Main Office, submit your documents to the staff seated at reception. All your documents will be scanned, and a token shall be issued to you.
- Wait for your token to be called out at the Waiting Room.
- You will have to go to three different counters, namely A, B and C.
- At Counter A, your documents will be first verified, and your photograph, biometrics, and signature will be taken. This process might go on for about 15 minutes.
- At Counter B, the Government Officials will check and verify all your documents. The procedure might take about 20mins.
- The Granting Officer will then do a final verification of all the submitted documents at Counter C. This might again take about 20mins.
- You might be required to wait for your turn repeatedly at each counter.
- You will receive an acknowledgement slip when all the procedures are done with.
- The entire procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours.
Police Verification
- Once the passport interview gets over, you will receive an SMS informing you about the progress status of your application. The next step will be Police verification. You will get an intimation on the name, and the phone number of the Verification Officer assigned for your Passport procedure.
- Go to the corresponding police station. Meet the police officer who will be handling your file. Request them politely to finish the procedures at the earliest. Schedule an appointment with the police officer to visit your place of residence.
- The following day, you need to be present at the police station for the verification interview. You may be asked to carry the documents mentioned above and a few additional documents too if required.
- Once the verification procedures are done, request the police officer humbly to process your documents and submit it back to the regional passport office as soon as possible.
- After this, your Passport will be in your hands in approximately 7 Days. You can use the tracking application tool to check your passport’s status regularly.
- Once you receive your Indian Passport, verify whether the details printed in the Passport are accurate and complete. If you see any mistakes or errors in the printed document, report back to the PSK immediately.
Useful Tips
- In general, it would take about 7-30 days for the issue of your 'Normal' Indian Passport and 1-7 days for a ‘Tatkaal’ passport.
